    1

Uzbekistan are heading to the FIFA World Cup for the very first time in their history after officially securing qualification in June 2025.

Three-and-a-half decades after gaining independence, the White Wolves finally achieved their dream following multiple heartbreaking qualification campaigns over the years.

Now, a new generation of players will carry the nationโ€™s hopes onto footballโ€™s biggest stage at FIFA World Cup 2026โ„ข.

๐Ÿบ Years Of Heartbreak Before Glory

    2

Uzbek football has experienced many painful moments throughout its history.

One of the most devastating setbacks came during qualification for Germany 2006, when Uzbekistan defeated Bahrain but were forced into a replay due to a refereeing error before eventually losing on away goals.

Another heartbreaking exit followed in 2014 against Jordan after a dramatic penalty shootout. Former midfielder Timur Kapadze converted his penalty, but defender Anzur Ismailov missed the decisive attempt that ended Uzbekistanโ€™s hopes once again.

More than a decade later, a new generation finally changed the nationโ€™s football history.

A scoreless draw against United Arab Emirates in Abu Dhabi on 5 June 2025 officially secured Uzbekistanโ€™s first-ever FIFA World Cup qualification.

    ๐Ÿ† Fabio Cannavaro Takes Charge

    3

Despite successfully guiding the team through qualification, former coach Timur Kapadze stepped aside in October 2025 and moved into an assistant coaching role.

The Uzbekistan Football Association then appointed Italian football legend Fabio Cannavaro as head coach for the FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.

Cannavaro, a FIFA World Cup winner with Italy in 2006, brings valuable experience and leadership to the White Wolves ahead of their historic tournament debut.

Together with fellow Italian staff members Eugenio Albarella, Francesco Troise and Antonio Chimenti, Cannavaro now prepares Uzbekistan for footballโ€™s grandest stage.

    ๐Ÿ”ฅ The Qualification Journey

    4

Uzbekistan entered the AFC qualifiers in the second round and immediately impressed with strong performances.

Draws against continental powerhouse IR Iran, combined with four victories, helped the White Wolves comfortably advance into the third round.

The team remained unbeaten in their first four matches before suffering a narrow 3-2 away defeat against Qatar.

Young star Abbosbek Fayzullaev emerged as one of the teamโ€™s most important players throughout the campaign, consistently delivering goals in crucial moments.

โญ The Moment History Was Made

    5

The turning point came when Fayzullaev scored in a 1-0 victory against Korea DPR and later found the net again in a crucial 2-2 draw against IR Iran in Tehran.

Those results pushed Uzbekistan to the edge of qualification before history was finally made in Abu Dhabi.

On 5 June 2025, the White Wolves held United Arab Emirates to a scoreless draw and officially booked their place at the FIFA World Cup for the very first time.

After decades of disappointment, Uzbekistanโ€™s dream had finally become reality.
